Well you’ve made a film, maybe a couple and now what? There are lots of great places around Oregon to show your film, and in the rest of the world too… There is always youtube, which most of you have played with a bit, but if you’ve made a very special film, especially one which is of artistic merit, you may want to hold off on the self distribution and enter it for competition in a few festivals first. The NorthWest Film Center has a great festival every year for films created by young people in the region. The entry for this year’s competition is June 30th, so you’ve got a month to put the finishing touches on your work. The most prestigious festival in the US for kid produced work happens in Chicago at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival They are huge supporters of work made by and for kids, especially films made with strong messages and creative content. Internationally there is the Kids for Kids Film Festival which screens some of the best made films from around the world.
Locally there are some great programs which work with young filmmakers to continue their craft: the NorthWest Film Center’s Young Filmmaker program has a number of great classes and if you’ve an interest in documentary film work, Film Action Oregon offers a great program, Project Youth Doc at the Hollywood Theater
